Condo Living: Exercises to Improve Your Posture

Jul 23, 2021

Good posture is very important to us human beings, as it brings balance to our bodies. However, in today’s time and age, it is sad to say that we tend to spend a lot of our time scrolling and browsing our social media feeds. Considering that we are in this new normal, we ended up doing daily routines digitally and remotely in the comfort of our condo units. Eventually, we became in love with the idea of condo living. I mean, who wouldn’t enjoy a condo lifestyle.

However, this new normal lifestyletook a toll on our postures. Too much sitting and less physical activities such as walking and running will ruin our posture and lead to bad posture which is dangerous for us. Eventually, we might not enjoy our lifestyle to the fullest nor enjoy the beauty of our surroundings.

Defining Good Posture

As stated, having a bad posture will be very harmful to us.  On the contrary, having a good posture is beneficial for us. Increase positive mood, confidence, energy level, and it can even make a person happier. These are just some of the benefits you will enjoy. So how will you know if you have good posture? Well, good posture is also known as neutral spine. Therefore, the muscles and bones surrounding your spine are equally supporting the body. Less strain and balance when you sit, stand or lie down.

Stretch and Exercise

Now that we know the definition of what good posture is, it is time to do something to maintain or improve our posture for better condo living. Here are some exercises that can help improve your posture and the benefits of those exercises.

Chest opener

Doing this exercise will improve your breathing. Stand straight, clasp your hands behind your back, and push down towards the floor while stretching the arms away from the back. Lift your head and feel the stretch. Do it for at least 20 - 30 seconds.

Forward fold

This exercise will release tension in the neck and shoulders. However, be careful because this brings stress to the hamstrings. Start from a standing position, bend forward, shoulders away from ears, straighten your legs until you feel a stretch in the hamstring, and then palms or fingertips on the floor beside your feet. Hold the pose for 30 - 45 seconds.

Hip Bridges

Doing hip bridge exercises will reduce lower back pain caused by sitting and standing in a slouched position.  Hip bridges will strengthen glutes and abs which will remove the stress from your lower back. Engage your core then, lift your hips and lower torso off of the ground by contracting your glutes then. Then, slowly lower your hips back down.

High Plank

High plank positions strengthen your upper body, which will keep your upper and lower back in a neutral position.  Lie down on your stomach, straighten your arms, and keep your core engaged and pelvis neutral. Hold this position for 30 - 60 seconds.

Downward-facing dog

Although this position is awkward for some, we can’t deny that this stretch opens up the chest and shoulders, strengthening your vertebrae and aligning your spine. Press heels towards the floor, hips high up, release shoulders from ears, micro bend your knees, lengthen the spine and create a straight line from tailbone to head. Hold for 30 - 45 seconds.

Cat-Cow pose

This motion sequence will help increase spinal awareness, relieves back pain and stress. Start by planting your hands and knees on the ground.  Inhale and tilt your pelvis back for a cow pose, then lift your head and relax your shoulders.  As you exhale, tuck your tailbone and draw your pubic bone forward for a cat pose, then move your head toward the floor. Do as many as you can in 45 seconds.

Cobra pose

This stretch strengthens the abs and aligns the spine. Lie down on your stomach, palace your hands in a push-up position, push down through your palms, lift your chest as you exhale. Squeeze your shoulder blades to engage your upper back. Keep your hips and feet planted on the floor. Then, slowly go back down on the ground and then repeat for at least 15 repetitions.

Now you know how to do these different exercises and their benefits, it is time for you to stay committed and enjoy doing those exercises. Adding this to your daily routine will surely bring drastic changes in your lifestyle. Imagine if you are living in your condo in Manila or your condo in Mandaluyong or Quezon City. The stress of the surrounding environment will surely take a toll on your lifestyle, even if you are a home buddy. However, adding a few minutes of your time to exercise will improve your overall physical health. After all, an early study stated that stretching exercises can improve your posture and get your blood flowing. It is never too late to start doing exercises, just like in real estate. It is never too late to start investing in real estate nor buying a pre-selling condo. It is all about you and your plan in life
