Condo Tips: Forgetting Calories, Not Memories

Jan 14, 2023

We can't hide the fact the holidays brought us much more events that we can ever imagine; parties, gatherings, celebrations, and such. These events come along with good food and good memories.

Calorie-Gain

Many of us accumulated a lot of calories which made us out of shape. Everybody needs calories, and it is inevitable to our lives. Based from the Medical News Today, "A calorie is a unit of energy. In nutrition, calories refer to the energy people get from the food and drink they consume, and the energy they use in physical activity."

Everyday, an average person needs 2,000 or more kilocalories per day at it depending on different factors like overall general health, physical activity demands, sex, weight, height, and body shape.

The human body needs calories to survive. Without energy, cells in the body die, the heart and lungs cease to function, and organs are unable to perform essential processes needed for survival. Humans absorb this energy from food and drink. If people only consumed the required number of calories each day, they could probably live a healthy life. Consuming calories that are too low or too high can eventually lead to health problems. The number of calories in food tells us how much potential energy it contains. It's not just the calories that matter, but the substance from which they are taken.

Calories seem to be linked only to weight gain and obesity, but they are essential for good health. They only pose a health risk if people consume more than the recommended amount. When considering calories, you need to take into account not only your diet but also your level of physical activity. High-calorie intake can be compensated by regular high-intensity exercise.

Ways to Burn Calories

Speaking of exercise, here are some ways to burn off calories from the holiday season and ways to burn fats to bid them goodbye.

When you exercise, you use your muscles. This helps build muscle mass, and muscle tissue burns more calories and even when you're at rest, than body fat. 10 pounds of muscle would burn 50 calories in a day spent at rest, while 10 pounds of fat would burn 20 calories. Strength training becomes especially important as we get older when our metabolisms tend to slow down. One way to stop this is to add some strength training to your workout at least a couple of times a week. The largest muscles (and, therefore the largest calorie burners) are in the thighs, abdomen, chest, and arms.

Drinking caffeinated green or black tea is also a way to burn fats. Caffeine is a stimulant, and stimulants tend to increase the calories you burn. One possible reason is that they make you feel like you have more energy in the short term, which can mean you move more. Caffeine also causes metabolic changes in the body, which can cause more calories to be burned.

In recent years, several studies have highlighted the benefits of green or black tea that may go beyond the caffeine that they contain. One study noted that mice ate less food because of polyphenols in green tea. Another study in humans concluded that green tea has thermogenic and caloric properties that go beyond what caffeine can explain. When 31 healthy young men and women drank three beverages containing green tea catechins, caffeine, and calcium for three days, their 24-hour energy expenditure increased by 4.6%, according to a study by the University of Lausanne in Switzerland. Drinking tea before meals has another weight loss effect. According to a study published in the September 2006 issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, consuming tea extract with the same meal may interfere with the body's absorption of carbohydrates. While all of these potential effects are minor, there is another benefit to drinking tea. Drinking a calorie-free cup of tea instead of a high-calorie drink like soda will definitely reduce the number of calories you consume. Just ensure that your drinking habit will be at the right time to prevent hyper-acidity.

Every time you eat a meal or snack, your digestive tract opens up, so to speak, to begin digesting food and absorbing nutrients. It takes calories to fuel your body's digestive machinery, so it makes sense that the more small meals or snacks you eat throughout the day, the more calories you'll burn.

There isn't much hard evidence for this. But many experts believe it's a healthier way to eat anyway than eating one or two large meals. If it burns more calories than usual, then it is a way to burn off calories.

A recent editorial in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association states that an evidence is mounting to support a link between skipping breakfast and weight gain. Several studies have shown that when people skip breakfast, they tend to eat more calories at the end of the day. Other research has shown that skipping breakfast is associated with a higher body mass index in adolescents.

Another way to burn off calories is by consuming low fat dairy products. The calcium in low-fat dairy products doesn't specifically help you burn more calories, but it can do some things to help reduce body fat. In another recent study, eating foods higher in calcium, including low-fat dairy products, appears to be associated with lower abdominal fat.

Diet and exercise are good topics to discuss with your doctor or instructor. It is best to discuss this with them before starting a new exercise program or supplementing your diet. If you have certain medical conditions or take certain medications, you should probably avoid certain activities or dietary supplements.

Lastly, drinking water is really a way of everything and a way to burn off fats too. Drinking 8-10 glasses or 2 liters of water a day can burn and flush out the calories out of your body. Water is accessible for almost everyone, and the benefits of drinking water for your other organs and body parts are really astonishing as long as the water is consumed the right way and right amounts.

Apart from that 7 ways to burn your calories, you can also do household chores like gardening, housework, and exercises to burn off your calories. After all those seasons of parties and decorations, cleaning your space can be an aerobic activity that also gives you fulfillment.

You can also plan a 7-day diet and exercise plan that will not interfere with what you do in your work or life. It should be simple and can be done in a short period of time with the proper postures and striving determination.

You can search for internet solutions or consult a doctor for proper diet regimen depending on your medical or physical conditions. You can also spend some time working out in the gym for 7 days with the proper equipment and guidance from your instructors.
